Peer Support Program
Peer Support in Primary Schools
The Primary School Peer Support Program seeks to increase connections across the school through vertical groupings. This allows students to form relationships as well as develop empathy and a sense of responsibility for students which they might not typically engage with. While working within these structured groups, older students lead younger students through activities that explore social and emotional skills focusing on optimism, resilience, values, relationships and anti-bullying.
The structure and content combined seek to build protective factors such as sense of self, sense of possibility, connectedness and resilience, as well as establish a shared language across the school community.
Schools will require a Primary Schools Manual which contains the Peer Leaders’ Training and administrative guidelines. Each year the school will require one of the modules from the suite to provide content for the groups to work through.
