Stanmore Public School, Sydney
Teachers at Stanmore Public School marked the start of the 2015 Peer Support Program with great enthusiasm. Consultant Miranda McCallum was thrilled to visit the school that she herself attended as a Year 6 student. While the focus of the session was on preparing staff for their roles, she found it difficult not to break into a rousing rendition of the school song!
How is Stanmore implementing The Peer Support Program?
Due to other school activities in Term 2 and 3, Stanmore Public School prefers to run The Peer Support Program in Term 1 of the school year. This also corresponds to Year 6 Camp, where Peer Leader’s will be trained. While most primary schools choose implement The Peer Support Program in either Term 2 or Term 3, Year 6 teachers and Peer Support Coordinators Nigel and Claire at Stanmore feel it is the best option for their school’s timetable and are confident that the Program will work earlier in the year.
