2015 Peer Support Australia Workshops

Our Workshop Dates for 2015 are now available. Please book well in advance to secure your place today.

We kick off in February 2015 with workshops in Ryde NSW (17 Feb), Melbourne (24 Feb) and Brisbane (25 Feb). Bookings are being taken now for these first workshops of Term 1.

New in 2015! A range of Sydney city dates have been scheduled at the NSW Teachers’ Federation Conference Centre in Surry Hills, just a 5 minute walk from Central Station. Dates at this new venue in 2015 include:  3 March, 3 June, 1 September and 21 October (Peer Support Implementation) and 19 February 2015 (SRC Leadership for Teachers). Book early as we expect these Workshops to be very popular.

And don’t forget, when attending either a Peer Support Implementation Workshop or SRC Leadership for Teachers Workshop, the second participant from your school receives a 50% discount. If attending our Positive Directions in Anti-Bullying Workshop two participants from a single school may attend for the total cost of $70.

Which Workshop should I attend?

The Peer Support Program – Implementation Workshop
Time: 9am – 4pm
Cost: $230 +gst
(50% discount for second participant from same school attending same workshop)
Professional Development Hours (NSW teachers): 6 hours mandatory BOSTES endorsed professional development

This one day Implementation Workshop for primary and secondary teachers is held at various central locations around Australia. After attendance at the Workshop, participants will be able to implement and coordinate an effective Peer Support Program and confidently train their Peer Leaders.

The Workshop includes:
– A whole school approach to building and enhancing a positive school culture
– Key underpinnings and impacts of the Program
– Understanding research findings regarding the mental health of young people
– A model of best practice for implementing and coordinating an effective and integrated Peer Support Program
– Links to curriculum, policy and other educational initiatives
– An action plan that will assist in the implementation of the Peer Support Program in your school context
– Current Peer Leaders’ Training
– Experiences from the Peer Leaders’ Training
– Networking and sharing ideas with others

SRC Leadership for Teachers Workshop
Time: 9am – 3.30pm
Cost: $230 +gst
(50% discount for second participant from same school attending same workshop)

Peer Support Australia’s SRC Leadership training program is conducted throughout the year at various central locations. The Workshop assists schools to develop an effective program which encourages meaningful and active participation of students across all areas of school life.

Workshop includes:
– Investigating democracy and democratic processes
– Identifying what contributes to a positive school culture
– Identifying a whole school approach with links to curriculum and welfare
– Identifying structures for leadership opportunities
– Analysing existing models of leadership
– An implementation model
– Increase confidence in organising and sustaining a leadership program
– Networking and action planning
– Student project ideas
– Student training notes and activities

Positive Directions in Anti-Bullying
Time: 4pm – 6pm
Cost: $50 +gst per participant
(or $70 +gst for two attending the same workshop from the same school)
Professional Development Hours (NSW teachers): 2 hours mandatory BOSTES endorsed professional development

Peer Support Australia has developed a program for primary and secondary schools to support students, staff and parents to become more aware of bullying behaviours. A whole school approach to creating positive change includes raising awareness, developing strategies and implementing procedures.

Please note that it the Peer Support Implementation Workshop (above) is a prerequisite for this Positive Directions in Anti-Bullying Workshop.

The Workshop includes:

– Definitions and latest research on bullying in schools in Australia.
– How a peer led approach to anti-bullying can enhance a whole school approach.
– Key issues in changing bullying behaviours. For example, The Bullying Triangle and the power of language.
– Taking positive steps, putting procedures in place, best practice in developing an anti-bullying policy.
